Martlesham Models Latest News 13th December 2007

Well this one has been talked about for a long time and finally released by the new Airfix company. Now in stock at Martlesham Models. Without a doubt the quality of the mouldings and overall finish of the kit from Airfix is vastly improved.

Designed by the same team as the Avro Lancaster bomber of WWII. The Vulcan was Britains nuclear deterrent for over 25 years. When the Polaris missile was adopted by the UK government the Vulcan was adapted for low level operations.

In 1982 a lone Vulcan bombed the runway of Port Stanley airfield during the Falklands war. The Vulcan achieved the record for the longest bombing run in history.

The Vulcan is powered by four Rolls Royce Olympus 201 two shaft turbojets. With a maximum speed of 1030 kph and a range of 7400 kilometres. The huge weapons bay could carry 21000 lbs of conventional or nuclear bombs.

The first squadron to be declared operational was No.617 squadron (the famous ''Dambusters'').

One of the most graceful aircraft ever to fly, the Vulcan will always be remembered for its exciting displays at airshows in the 1980''s and early 1990''s.

Once again we will be able to see the mighty Vulcan in the skys above England in 2008 as XH558 has been recently restored and returned to flight.

This Gift Set includes the 1:72 scale Vulcan B Mk2 celebrating the 25th Anniversary of The Falklands War.

The Gift Set also includes the required paints to complete the model (15 Humbrol Acrylic Paints), a paint brush and glue (Humbrol Precision Poly Cement).

The kit has the following dimensions:

108 parts, Length 446mm, width 468mm, skill level 3.

The kit will build one of four versions: 44 Squadron RAF (XM607), 617 Squadron RAF (XL321), 9 Squadron (XH562) & Vulcan display flight (XH558).

Check out the relevant sections in the shop for a range of model making glue, precision glue nozzles, paint and paint brushes from Revell, Humbrol, Xtracolor, Mission Models and Zap.
