Martlesham Models Latest News 6th September 2007

Listed today is the first of the re-released Airfix models delivered to Martlesham Models. I''m really pleased to see the Airfix brand back on the shelves. Airfix are an iconic brand and with the help of Hornby we now hope all of their old troubles are behind them .

The Dragon Rapide: This is not a new model release but the quality of the mouldings, packaging and general production has improved greatly. Previously the moulded parts were loose in the box. Now the parts are sealed in a plastic bag to keep them secure.

The instructions and decals are of a higher quality and the general feel is of a significant quality improvement. Finally the box is finished in a satin sheen which again uplifts the overall quality of the kit.

If you like the Dragon Rapide then you won''t be disappointed with the kit. Containing a total of 59 parts the model will build one of three models.

The De Havilland Dragon Rapide was one of the most successful inter-war passenger aircraft. Pressed into service by the RAF during the Second World War. Many of these aircraft are still in use today providing pleasure flights at airfields across the country.

This kit will build one of three versions.

1) Scottish Airways 1943.

2) RAF - Kings Flight 1935 -1936.

3) No.829 Naval Air Service, Fleet Air Arm Culdrose - 1960.

The kit requires Humbrol enamel paint numbers 24, 33, 41, 53, 56, 64, 85 for the common part of the aircraft.

You will also require the following paint to build a specific version.

Version 1 - Scottish Airways, Humbrol No.29, 30.

Version 2 - Kings Flight, Humbrol No.19, 35, 109.

Version 3 - Fleet Air Arm, Humbrol No.174.
