Hawker Hurricane Kit Reviews Introduction

The Hawker Hurricane. The Battle of Britain hero that never got the glory it deserved, permanently in the shadow of the graceful Supermarine Spitfire. A neighbour of mine worked on Spitfires and Hurricanes during the Second World War (ground crew). We were at a Duxford airshow during the early 1970’s and I was having trouble identifying between a Spitfire and Hurricane.

He told me a phrase that I have remembered to this day and one that helps to easily identify the two aircraft.

He said “Spit out and Hurri in” He was of course referring to how the under carriage of each aircraft retracted and deployed. The Spitfires undercarriage legs retract outwards towards the wing tips of the aircraft. The Hurricanes retract inwards towards the centre of the fuselage. A simple but effective phrase!

The model market has been clearly focused on the sleek Supermarine Spitfire but the Hawker Hurricane is well catered for in various kits and aftermarket accessories.

This article and the other articles in the Hurricane section will help you identify the model kits and accessories available from Martlesham Models and our suppliers.

We may not have them all in stock but we certainly have access to most of them. So if you want something and we don’t have it in stock send me an email (sales@martlesham-models.com) and I will see what I can do.

This first section will focus on the model kits available. The following sections will detail the after market accessories, decals and books on the Hawker Hurricane.

Enjoy and remember if you have any pictures of Hurricance kits you have built and would like to add them to these articles or the site in general please send them to me via the email address above.
